We Were Shocked

.....but not surprised.
Another new customer came to us after trying a popular home delivery "fresh" dog food they saw advertised on TV and Facebook. This time it was "diarrhea for days" for both of their dogs.
Since this wasn't the first time we talked to fellow dog lovers about some of the other "fresh" dog foods out there, we decided to dig a little deeper and visited the web site. Yikes! It was next to impossible to find the ingredients list, in fact you had to start placing an order before you had access to what was actually in the food.
Yes, it listed a meat first, but it did not say "fresh meat". Then it listed things like gas-causing chickpeas and lentils, potatoes, AND even more gas-causing veggies like broccoli, cauliflower and Brussel's sprouts!
This company is spending millions on advertising and isn't even using fresh meat - and they use CHEAP protein substitutes to make up a large portion of the protein.
Some folks don't know that plant proteins for dogs are not healthy and not the same as fresh meat. They are just cheaper.
Dogs do not digest carbs well, which is why there are so many overweight and unhealthy dogs. This food contains lots of carbs. Perhaps not as much as dry food, but I'll bet pretty close.
They are apparently unaware that just because a veggie or a bean might be nutritious and healthy for humans, it might cause digestive issues for dogs, who have completely different digestion systems than humans. It is important for many breeds not to feed gas-causing food. Read about bloat in dogs and you'll understand why. This food has multiple gas-causing whammies between the lentils, chickpeas and these veggies.
And it gets worse. The longest list of ingredients, dozens of them, were additives. Why? Because there isn't enough nutrition in the cheap ingredients they use, so they need to be added in using bags and bags of vitamin and mineral mixes, that used to come from China, uncontrolled. We all remember hearing about the dogs that died because some of the mixes contained toxic amounts of Vitamin D.
We were shocked after learning all of this, but not surprised. The bottom line is that it really is all about the money, not about the dogs.
My guess is that this food totally messed up these dogs' digestive systems between the lentils, chickpeas and gassy veggies, not to mention the additives. Poor pups.
We're told the packaging is awful too, and the food has a "funny smell". Does it look like fresh meat, no! But in their defense, they don't say they use fresh meat.
Dogs Thrive on Fresh Meat.

Dog lovers know this. Especially the ones who have discovered Napa Fresh.
If you still haven't tried Napa Fresh, take a look at the ingredients in Yummy Chicken, a best-seller, for example:
Fresh USDA inspected hormone free chicken legs & thighs, fresh USDA inspected hearts & gizzards, zucchini, summer squash, kale, carrots, apples, whole milk organic yogurt, organic vegetarian fed eggs, ground flaxseed, alfalfa powder, garlic. All fit for human consumption.
Now, take a look at the label of whatever you happen to be feeding now, and compare. Are you shocked too? What we feed the dogs we love really matters. A lot.
